Having owned lots of classic cars over the years most have ended up as works of art in the garage as the driving experience never matched their looks. I have always had a passion for American cars then one night while searching the interweb I came across a 1966 Ford Mustang GT Coupe for sale in New York. She was a proper GT with the original Rallye pack option and from the pictures looked really original. I called the dealer and we struck a deal. I then called Jamie at Hill Shipping who organised collection and delivery by RORO to Southampton. Jamie made the whole experience seem easy right down to paying any import taxes. Once she arrived here I could not have been more pleased, her condition was exactly as described and she is wonderfully original. The real surprise was driving her, she is an absolute joy with power steering, power brakes and factory A/C. She easily keeps up with modern traffic and I just want to drive or should I say cruise everywhere in her.

ROWAN HAD THE FOLLOWING WORDS TO SAY :

I’ve been on the lookout for a nice ‘66 Buick Wildcat convertible for nearly 12 months and was running out of confidence that I would ever find a nice clean example. Out of the blue I spotted this rare Wildcat Custom Convertible pop up on Ebay with no reserve. I normally stay well away from Ebay, but this one caught my eye – private seller, low-mileage 2 owner car, red on black, 401 Nailhead V8 with 445lb/s torque and 335hp, new convertible hood, as-new interior, retro MP3 car player, absolutely no rust and near-perfect paintwork – the perfect combo! It was a straight auction with no reserve and was hoping that no-one else would see the car., but at the very last second I was pipped to the post and lost the bid. I was absolutely gutted and kicked myself for days for not putting in a higher maximum bid. Anyway, two weeks had passed and I got a second-chance offer on the car and I was excited and sceptical at the same time. I put a deposit on the car and asked a fellow classic car fanatic of mine in the US to go check the car out. It was a simple assessment - if I wasn't going to buy it, he was taking it there and then – ‘nuff said! I was nervous about shipping a car of this quality using RoRo, but a friend of mine had already shipped with Hill Shipping and he couldn't speak more highly of the team and the service. A phone call to Jamie and he mobilised the troops and organised everything from local shipping in the US, right through to customs clearance in the UK before finally putting it on a ferry to Dublin where I picked it up. Excellent service - thanks guys!
