I’ve been on the lookout for a nice ‘66 Buick Wildcat convertible for nearly 12 months and was running out of confidence that I would ever find a nice clean example. Out of the blue I spotted this rare Wildcat Custom Convertible pop up on Ebay with no reserve. I normally stay well away from Ebay, but this one caught my eye – private seller, low-mileage 2 owner car, red on black, 401 Nailhead V8 with 445lb/s torque and 335hp, new convertible hood, as-new interior, retro MP3 car player, absolutely no rust and near-perfect paintwork – the perfect combo! It was a straight auction with no reserve and was hoping that no-one else would see the car., but at the very last second I was pipped to the post and lost the bid. I was absolutely gutted and kicked myself for days for not putting in a higher maximum bid. Anyway, two weeks had passed and I got a second-chance offer on the car and I was excited and sceptical at the same time. I put a deposit on the car and asked a fellow classic car fanatic of mine in the US to go check the car out. It was a simple assessment - if I wasn't going to buy it, he was taking it there and then – ‘nuff said! I was nervous about shipping a car of this quality using RoRo, but a friend of mine had already shipped with Hill Shipping and he couldn't speak more highly of the team and the service. A phone call to Jamie and he mobilised the troops and organised everything from local shipping in the US, right through to customs clearance in the UK before finally putting it on a ferry to Dublin where I picked it up. Our client Ralph Mowbray has recently imported his dream vehicle to the UK , a Pontiac Firebird.

Ralph had these words to say :-

Every ones got a dream car, for most people its some soulless,eye wateringly fast/expensive Italian super car. For me its always been a 75' Pontiac Firebird. Well after 25 years of dreaming I finally decided to knuckle down and start saving so after 2 years of blood, sweat and tears I found myself in the position to be able to buy one!

But where to look?  The cars I saw advertised in this country were either in need of complete restoration or were fully restored and way out of my price range. So it was with a certain amount of apprehension that I took the decision to import and it was whilst looking through Classic American that I came across your advertisement. My mind was instantly put at rest by the previous clients testimonial's so once I'd found a car I liked, I took the plunge and got in touch.

I would like to say how helpful you both were and how easy you made the whole process. You kept me completely up to date with what was happening, from when the car was picked up from the dealer in Illinois, to when she arrived at Southampton a few weeks before being delivered straight to my front door!

Shipping of bikes from the USA to the UK Guy Lucking

Jamie at Hill Shipping has shipped two bikes for me in the last two months. I cannot recommend their service highly enough. It was a seamless and faultless process each time, including arranging collecting one bike from Missisppi and freighting it overland to the port. They took all the stress out of importing a bike from the USA.

Austin Show and HotRod swap meet

Here's some pictures I took at the event. Mostly of cars.  The event started at 10AM but when I left around 3:30 there was still a long line of "show Cars" still waiting to register and drive in.  Austin area very laid back and not that into punctuality.

The people were wild, wacky, but very friendly, part of what makes this event popular I think.  The Rock-a-Billy crowd apparently very big in the HotRod and cafe racer bike scenes. There was lots of slick back

hair on the guys and " B-52" hairdos for the ladies.  Skin art was everywhere, saw some real interesting tattoos.

Cars were everything from rust bucket bar finds looking for the right person to start the process, to fully restored, to complete customized.

Several styles as well, RatRods, or jalopies, Slammed to the ground cruisers, and lots of others.  Most reasonable priced too, not so much the designer  or highly collectible like you see at Barrett Jackson.

I recently used Hill Shipping to bring over a 75 corvette that I purchased from Maryland. They arranged the collection of the vehicle from the seller's home, the shipping to southampton, and all the paperwork involved. This included making sure the import tax was only 5% as the vehicle is over 30 years old. Everything went according to plan and the vehicle was waiting for me to pick up at the port the day after the ship docked. The vehicle was in the same condition it was in when it left the previous owner. Hill Shipping kept me up to date along the way and sent me the vehicle's title promptly, and the HMRC clearance came through within days. I would recommend them for shipping any vehicle from the USA and I will not hesitate in using them again.
